6.UTENSILS need to be easily accessible when preparing meals. You can store the larger cooking spoons in containers on a tray along with other cooking essentials. This tray can then be moved around as and when you need it.
Utensils can also be stored on your counter backsplash using a hanging rail. If you live in a rental, remember these can be attached with something as simple as command hooks.
In a small kitchen, side cabinet space is everything – dont waste it! If you are reluctant to use your counter backsplash, you can always attach rails and hooks to the side of your cabinets as well for utensils
This side cabinet idea also works great for organizing chopping boards and hanging baskets for kitchen miscellaneous items like, paper plates dish cloths, lunch bags etc
7. SPICES AND HERBS can be stored on the inside of your cupboard doors, counter backsplash, or even underneath the cupboards with a magnetic strip like this photo below (basically anywhere but the actual counters themselves. I find my collection of spices is my biggest source of clutter)
Whenever I buy fresh herbs, I usually just place them on my kitchen sink counters in a plant pot. This idea to store herbs in milk bottles and hang from the window sill using a rod is pure genius and frees up so more space!
Or of course, you could just build your own spice rack!
8. JARS FOR COFFEE ETC: Double up on kitchen counter storage space by making a DIY tiered shelf

KITCHEN COUNTERTOPS AND ORGANIZATION IDEAS SAY WHAT? HERE ARE A FEW OTHER POST YOU MIGHT LIKE
I do enjoy receiving your posts – like the milk bottle ideas, very handy. But Im posting just this time on our seasonal change here in New Zealand. We have had very high temps resulting in drought conditions – its hard to go outside for too long as NZ has one of the highest
incidences of skin cancer in the world. I smiled at you wanting to garden now that spring and a little sun has arrived (and I read that your weather has been atrocious), whilst I cannot spend time in my garden because of the heat – where I live we have had no rain for almost four months – we seem to be polar opposites – too hot here – too cold over there! But do keep your posts coming – I enjoy them for the sheer difference and variety. Kate, NZ PS No, Im not a professional weather girl!
Haha loved this kate, it really made me smile so thank you for that. You could have fooled me about being a professional weather girl – you sound like a natural!
Where did you get that outdoor 3 tier planter. It’s attractive and deep enough to hold the fruit?
I love the idea to get the electronics off the counter. The hanging basket is brilliant for the hand-helds that need a recharge!
I am NOT a fan of having utensil hanging off the bottom cabinet sides. Gross!!! Imagine how much dirt and stuff gets on them especially when sweeping or just walking past. Yuck!!!
I can relate to that . I guess it depends on how high you plan to hang the rail and what type of utensils you put on it 🙂
Place it inside a cabinet door— use free wooden paint stirrers for the extra thickness so you don’t drill thru your door thickness!
