Materials:Gorm shelf from Ikea

4 – 1 by 2 boards

2 – 1 by 4 boards

wood glue

 brad nails

How I made it:

Create simple storage using just a few items to corral the animals roaming your children’s bedrooms.  This was always one of my favorite projects.  It is so easy and in less than an hour, you can have cute storage for your child’s room. I just love the look of the natural wood but you can paint or stain it to match the decor of your child’s room.

I bought my boards from a home improvement store. The 1 by 2’s are about $1.20 a piece and the 1 by 4’s are about $4 a piece. I didn’t keep receipts so these are my best guesses.  I already had a Gorm shelf from IKEA.

I assembled the IKEA Gorm shelf per their instructions.  I would have to say that I have assembled many an IKEA product and this shelf is, by far, one of the easiest to assemble.

I added the 4 – 1 by 2’s to the front face of the shelf using wood glue and brad nails.  I added one 1 by 4 to each side.  I left the back open since it was going up against a bedroom wall.

We added the larger stuffed animals from the back but smaller ones can be squeezed through the slats on the front and through the sides.  It could also be easily modified by bringing the slats only half way down the front (or up the front, your preference.)  This way you could store books, board games, and other items on the open shelves.
