DIY Kids Book Sling - a 10 min lazy girls guide! • Grillo Designs

This might just be the easiest DIY book sling tutorial you’ll ever read. Go grab an IKEA towel rail and an old pillow cover, and lets get creating!

I love a lazy girls guide to anything.

In fact, lazy girl DIY, drinking huge cups of coffee and moaning about ADULT-ING might just be my favourite things to do this month.

I’m not kidding.

And if you happen to identify with the above statement (and maybe also have a kid who loves books), then these 10 minute fabric book slings are right up your street.

A house can never have too many book shelves right?

Right. (EDIT: This project is actually an improved version of my IKEA HACK in 2014!!)

MATERIALS NEEDED TO MAKE ONE BOOK SLING:

1 x pillow case (40cm) – these are the exact ones I used (and if you’re in the US- here you go!)
IKEA Grundtal Towel rail 40cm long (although you can use any towel rail)
Scissors
Fabric glue (optional)
Needle and thread

MY LAZY GIRLS GUIDE TO MAKING A BOOK SLING (in 10 mins!)

1.Turn the pillow cover inside out so you can see the sewing seams.

2. You will need to remove the stitches from all four corners of the pillow case. With a pen, mark out the width of your rail so you know exactly how big to make each opening.

3. Start removing the stitches from each side. I used sharp pointed scissors but you can also use a stick picker.

4. Once you are happy with your openings, turn the pillow case back to the right side and add in a coupe of new over and over stitches to the base of all four holes.

You can also use fabric glue to create new hemming for your hole edges. This can take at least 30 mins to dry though – so for a quicker option just tuck the edges inside the pillow.

5. Slide both ends of the pillow cover through the bars and assemble the towel rail accordingly.

And….your fabric book sling is DONE!

Hang em on the wall!
